Mental health sources
The Canadian Mental Health Association is connected to a variety of mental health service providers and professionals. We can provide you with information regarding a variety of mental health topics or connect you with many other informative sources. How media can assist our campaign
The media plays an important role in influencing public perceptions around mental illness. A conscious effort needs to be made by all forms of media not to not use words such as “crazy”, “nuts”, and “schizo”. For example referring to a criminal as a “mad man” in a news broadcast only inspires negative connotations toward mental illness. These terms create negative attitudes in general, and those attitudes may transfer to those who are living with a mental illness.
To assist us in our campaign the media can also help build knowledge by covering mental health topics such as:
- How to recognize the signs of depression
- How to beat the “winter blues”
- How to find balance
- How to deal with stress appropriately
For more mental health related story ideas, please contact the media representative above or view our media releases.
We also invite the media to help spread our message by running our campaign advertisements. For samples of the ads, click here.
